The academic system

The Academic system in all the faculties of the University of Gezira is the semester system. The academic year of the university consists of two semesters. The duration of the semester is normally 15 weeks and it may be extended depending on the nature of the Curricula of the faculties.
The University of Gezira is adopted the credit hour system, where each course has a certain weight of credit hours. A credit hour represents one hour theory lecture or two to three hours of practical work each week in a semester. The normal academic load varies between 15 and 24 credit hours per semester and does not exceed 30 credit hours for students required to clear F-grades or having courses not taken.
Continuous evaluation of students with relative assessment of all the students attending the course is followed with letter grades. Eight letter grades of A, B+ , B, C+, C, D+,D and F signifying various degrees of achievement were adopted with grade points of (4.0), (3.5), (3.0), (2.5), (2.0), (1.5), (1.0) and (0.0) respectively. Students are evaluated based on their academic performance throughout the semesters of study in a cumulative manner. Total grade points of each course are calculated by multiplying the grade points times the number of credit hours of that course. The Grade point average (GPA) is determined by dividing the total grade points obtained in a semester by the number of total credit hours registered for in the same semester. The cumulative grade point average (CGPA) is calculated by dividing the total points earned during all the semesters attended at the university by the total number of credit hours of those semesters.
An F-grade in a required course must be cleared by repeating the course. When repeating the course both the F grade and the grade earned upon repetition of the course shall appear on the student's transcript and shall be used in the calculation of the grade point average.
The minimum academic pass level from each undergraduate student at the end of each semester is a CGPA of (2.00). A student will be put on probation in any semester if his/her CGPA is less than (2.00) at the end of each semester. Failure to maintain the required minimum pass level after second probation by the end of the subsequent semester results in student dismissal.
